State of Play

Surprisingly, a sleepless night for me, not because of imsonia, but due to a sleep (mind you, not nap) at the wrong time in the evening.

Good for me, because I'm finding a subject movie for a movie sharing slot this coming weekend. In the middle of the night, when there will be no interference, I think it's high time to watch a movie. So there I go, with some chipsmore and a cup of Japanese Green Tea, I started the movie -- State of Play.

The story is about how an experienced journalist, Cal McCaffrey (Russell Crowe), who is also an old friend of a rising Congressman Stephen Collins (Ben Affleck), is trying to reveal the truth of a billion dollars-worth-political conspiracy.

I mustn't tell the whole story here, because I want you to feel like how I couldn't take my eyes off the screen for the whole session. The plot is well arranged where you will be led by all the seemingly possible leads to uncover the truth. The element of suspense is good, and it is well manipulated in this movie. I like the scene where Cal was hiding himself in a car park the most. The air was so intense that you thought holding your breath might help him to get away. Haha, this is no boasting~

What about the moral of the story? Well, the moral of the story is, the role of a journalist is bigger than one might think. You can choose to publish headlines which make the selling, or you can choose to discover the truth, especially when the public's interest is at stake. The other moral of the story is, don't trust a politician, even though he is fighting for something which seems to be good. Everything seems to be so easily manipulated without the people's knowing, why? Are we too good to believe? Are we too naive to be fooled? Or are we too powerless to be kept aside?

Lastly, wow wow wow...it's Russell Crowe again. I think this Australian actor made the movie. Since Gladiator, The Insider, A Beautiful Mind, until recent Robin Hood, never did he disappoint me and I've got to say that he gives soul to these characters. Ben Affleck, on the hand, was just another good looking actor.

Dear all, please watch this movie and try to enjoy intensity. I might be bias, but if you could watch movies like I Love You Beth Cooper (no offence to David) or 大内密探灵灵狗, I assure you, this is better. =)

Time to catch some sleep, while downloading another movie. I gotta feeling, that this will be a good one too.
